LAWRENCE, Mass. —
Quick actions by Lawrence firefighters and police officers saved the the lives of several pets during a house fire.
Lawrence police say they, along with the fire department, responded to a home on the 100 block of Lawrence Street on Friday after smoke could be seen pouring from the second floor.
Arriving officers learned that several animals were still inside the burning building.
Officer Jose Alcantara ran into the home without hesitation after seeing a dog and cat trying to escape, according to officials.
He was able to bring both animals to safety.
Several more pets were recovered by firefighters and transported to a local animal hospital for care.
The fire was eventually extinguished and there were no human injuries reported.
