The former 911 director for the Orleans Parish Communications District has been convicted of lying and covering up a wreck in his city-issued car.

Tyrell Morris was found guilty on all charges after a jury deliberated for less than an hour. Advertisement

Morris was convicted of charges including false impersonation of a peace officer, malfeasance in office, injuring public records and insurance fraud.

Morris was seen in tears as he was handcuffed and taken to jail following the verdict.

"The jury has spoken. This chapter of OPCD’s history is now closed, and we will continue to focus on our daily service to the residents, visitors, and our public safety partners in the great City of New Orleans."
