A small act of kindness is making a big difference for local animals in need.

Inspired by his love for animals, Micah Hughes, a 2nd grader at All Saints Episcopal School, organized a lemonade stand to raise money and bring awareness to the needs of the Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society.

“I want to do anything I can to help keep animals alive and happy,” 7-year-old Micah said. .

Micah and his friends raised $213, which they donated to the shelter’s Building Fund.

This fund supports a planned expansion that will allow the Humane Society to care for more animals. If the organization can reach its $100,000 fundraising goal, both the city and county have pledged to contribute $100,000 each—doubling the impact for homeless pets.

“It was hard, hot work, but fun,” 8-year-old Sam Edwards said.
