ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man has been arrested in connection with a cold case dating back to 2016, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

Police said James Mitchell, 63, was first reported missing in 2016. He has since been presumed dead. His remains have never been found.

On Sept. 24, Kevin Maurice Jones, 47, was arrested in connection with Mitchell’s disappearance and presumed death.

Jones has been charged with murder, robbery, aggravated assault and concealing the death of a person.

“This arrest is the result of tireless work by our detectives, in close partnership with our District Attorney’s Office, who were committed to finding the truth and seeking justice for James Mitchell’s family, no matter how long it took,” said Athens-Clarke County police chief Jerry Sault
