Tulsa police have charged a man with murder after a stabbing outside a downtown donut shop left a good Samaritan dead.

Officers responded around 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, to Brown’s Donut Shop following reports of a stabbing. Witnesses said 40-year-old Brandon Poor was acting erratically that morning, waving a gun and starting fires.

The situation escalated when Poor allegedly began harassing an employee outside the shop. A 39-year-old man, later identified as Zacchariah Watchman, intervened and was stabbed by Poor.

Watchman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and died Thursday evening around 9:30 p.m.

Poor was initially arrested on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and property destruction. Authorities said his charges will now be upgraded to murder.
