As a drive-in movie theater in Virginia faces shutting down, its managers hope the community helps raise enough money to save it.

The Family Drive-In in Stephens City feels like a portal into the past, but the owner of the land it sits on is trying to sell the property.

“We want it to keep going,” manager Ronald Graham said. “We want future generations to know what a drive-in theater is.”

For almost 70 years, Family has served as the backdrop for countless family outings, first dates and costume contests. But the drive-in faces closure when the lease ends Dec. 31.

“I really feel that families connect out here, and that’s what makes everything worth it,” Graham said.
