A Colorado man died after he crashed his semitrailer into a cement pillar on I-10 East near the UTEP campus, authorities said.

Mohamed Ali Mumin, 37, of Aurora, Colorado, was driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, on Interstate 10 East near the Spur 1966 overpass, when for unknown reasons he drifted into the right shoulder, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Officer Adrian Cisneros said in a news release.

He hit a guardrail and collided with a cement pillar of the Spur 1966 bridge overpass, the news release states. Mumin was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The crash caused major traffic delays as I-10 East was shut down for several hours.
