BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington Fire Department is considering relocating existing stations and building new ones to keep pace with the city’s growing population.
The department currently serves about 60,000 people from its six stations. A recent study conducted by former fire chiefs found gaps in coverage and resopnse times. Recommendations include adding a new station near Springwood Park and between existing Stations One and Four.
Battalion Chief Daniel Shoffner said the department aims to have a team arrive at an incident within four minutes of leaving a station. While current data shows firefighters respond in six minutes and 54 seconds or less 90% of the time, he said the goal is to do better.
