Car dealerships that sell electric vehicles are going to be busy this weekend.

It’s the last weekend before September 30, when the federal government’s electric vehicle tax credit is set to end.

The credit is $7,500, according to the Internal Revenue Service .

At Mitchell Volvo Cars of Simsbury, general sales manager Jim Gravanis said he’s seen an uptick in recent days of customers taking a good look at electric vehicles.

“$7,500 is a lot of money,” Gravanis said. “With that going away, we might have a little bit less than encouragement.”

He noted that Connecticut’s rebate program , which offers up to $1,000, is continuing.

This weekend, he said will have a discount “unheard of in the car industry.”
