ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
The Rio Grande Rivalry football game between the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University is back in Albuquerque this year. It's expected to sell out University Stadium for the first time since 2007, with new security measures and stadium features enhancing the experience.
"These have been some football-starved, successful fan bases and going to be a big game," said Jason Eck, the head coach for the Lobos.
This is Eck's first season with the Lobos, so this will be his first rivalry game. As for NMSU head coach Tony Sanchez, this is his second season with the team. He's also a former NMSU football player who's played in this rivalry game.
"You get a lot of guys that are brand new, they're experiencing it for the first time," Sanchez said.
