Here are a few key take aways from the first half of this week's area high school football games.

1. Maiden's defense

With a 19-0 halftime lead over Foard, Maiden has now pitched 10 straight shutout quarters.

2. A track meet

The first half of the game between Bandys and Newton-Conover. The Trojans found the end zone on their first four possessions while a series of big plays by Jeremiah Pope and Camden Ezzard helped Newton-Conover put up 28 first half points.

3. Hickory's dominance

For the fifth week in a row, Hickory will get a running clock. It's the fourth time in those five weeks they've started the second half up by at least 35. They lead North Lincoln 49-0 early in the third.
