FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A woman who knew Perla Nieto as the cashier at a Waynedale Kroger will be running in a Fort 4 Fitness event with a picture of Perla pinned to her back, and an American flag rolled up under her arm.

Angi Newkirk says it’s part of a group of runners called Flags 4 Fallen, who carry USA flags in memory of fallen Americans.

“I would see her two or three times a week. So, when I got that news, it was devastating. So, this means an awful lot to me, and I know it will mean a lot to the Waynedale community as well,” said Angi.

Angi was told about this opportunity just two days ago, and since then, got into contact with Perla’s family, who accepted the gesture.
