Mariela Ponce lifted a long, thin sheet of clay from a table in a newly opened space operated by the Brantford Potters’ Guild.

The large industrial unit, which is exclusively for guild members’ use in the Cordage Heritage District on Sherwood Drive, is adjacent to the group’s original space, Clay Works Studio, which is now used just for teaching.

The expansion doubles the guild’s square footage and represents a significant milestone for the group, established half-century ago.

“We were always trying to find a balance between the demand for classes and member access,” said Christie Gruppe, Clay Works Studio manager and teacher.
