MOORHEAD — Maybe the pregame parachute show was a harbinger of things to come for the Moorhead Spuds. One member of the Skydive Fargo team navigated the 25 mph south wind and landed swiftly on Jim Gotta Stadium next to the brand spankin' new Moorhead High School. The second, carrying an American flag, missed the mark by perhaps a quarter of a mile and landed east of the stadium, just avoiding the nearby railroad tracks and a grove of trees.
Talk about bad vibes. This was going to be a tough one for the Spuds, regardless. They didn’t need that.
The big, bad Maple Grove Crimson were in town, advertised as the best high school football team in Minnesota. You'll get no argument here.
On an utterly perfect late September evening — 81 degrees at kickoff, cooling down comfortably as the sun ma
