OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) -- The NAACP is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It's the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization founded in 1909.

This year's NAACP state conference was held in Owensboro. The three day event will gather members of the community, leaders, and advocates from the state to advance civil rights, equity, and justice.

Today's event was held at Brescia University and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear attended the event to talk about and celebrate diversity in the state.
