A tragic accident occurred early Saturday morning on National Highway-48 in Gurugram, resulting in the deaths of five young individuals. The incident took place around 4:30 AM near the exit towards Rajiv Chowk when a Mahindra Thar, carrying six passengers, lost control and crashed into a divider. The vehicle overturned multiple times due to the force of the impact.
The group, consisting of three women and three men, had travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work. Three of the women died at the scene, while two men were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to injuries. The sole survivor is currently in critical condition at Medanta Hospital.
Gurugram police responded promptly to the scene, where they began an investigation into the accident. A police spokesperson confirmed that the Thar had a registration number from Uttar Pradesh and that efforts were underway to identify the victims. Inspector Lalit from Sector 40 police station mentioned that mobile phones found in the vehicle are being used to contact the victims' families.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about speeding and road safety in the region. Authorities have noted that strict adherence to speed limits is essential to prevent such devastating accidents. The police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
This accident is part of a troubling trend, as similar incidents involving speeding vehicles have been reported in the area. Just last month, a biker was killed in a collision with a speeding Thar in Delhi's Moti Nagar, underscoring the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
