Sara Jane Moore, the Charleston-born would-be assassin of President Gerald Ford, died Wednesday in a Franklin, Tennessee, nursing facility at age 95, the Nashville Banner reported .

Moore died two days after the 50th anniversary of the day she fired one shot from a .38 caliber handgun at Ford as he prepared to board a limousine outside a San Francisco hotel. After her first shot missed her target, Moore raised her weapon to fire a second time when she was tackled by a bystander — former Marine Oliver Sipple — and taken into custody.
