NMC: 'Ghost applicants' a growing problem

TRAVERSE CITY — Fraudulent student college applications are a growing problem across the nation and Northwestern Michigan College is using new safeguards to protect the school from a growing number of these “ghost applicants.”

Ghost applicants are typically fake or stolen application identities designed to give fraudsters access to federal financial aid resources, and NMC has had to create an investigative team to address the new challenge.
