Police have arrested a 35-year-old employee of the Cachar district Commissioner’s office in Assam for allegedly raping a Grade-4 colleague.

The accused, identified as Saumitra Nath of Silchar, was taken into custody on September 25 from his residence, a day after the victim lodged a complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on September 24 when the woman accepted a lift from her senior colleague while returning home. Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Numal Mahatta told reporters: “As per her complaint, he offered her a ride from the office late in the evening. Upon reaching her residence, he insisted on entering the house. When she refused, he allegedly forced his way in and raped her.”
