In 2024, India reported 504,728 cases of animal bites other than dogs. Of these, around 11 people succumbed to their injuries, and many were left in critical condition. A significant share of these cases came from monkeys, whose population is currently estimated at over 50 million. With ever-dwindling green spaces, monkey-related nuisances within communities have been on the rise, and so have the number of monkey bite cases.
