LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville city leaders are mounting pressure on state legislators to reopen the Youth Transitional Services building.

Metro Council passed a resolution Thursday, Sept. 25 , calling on Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky. to expedite that process.

Councilmember Kevin Bratcher, D-22, a sponsor of the resolution, said the sooner it opens, the sooner the city can get a handle on violent crime.

“The chief told me four years ago that juvenile crime is the spike that’s causing crime across the city,” he said. “It’s a real problem.”

Bratcher said that without a detention center in Louisville, youth offenders are sent to Adair or Warren County, or released back into the community—calling both options unacceptable.
