Florence recorded the third-highest temperature of the summer among a group of 72 cities in the Eastern United States this summer, according to the National Weather Service.

Florence reached a high of 103 degrees on July 27. It was tied with Newark, New Jersey, which saw its temperature reach 103 on June 24.

The University of South Carolina campus in Columbia saw temperatures rise to 107 degrees on July 27. It had the highest daytime temperature of the 72 cities selected.

Baltimore, Maryland was ranked number 2 with a June 24 high temperature of 105 degrees.

Other cities in South Carolina making the list included:

• West Columbia: 101 on July 28. Tied for fifth with six other cities

• Greer: 100 on July 26-27. Tied for sixth with eight other cities

• North Charleston: 99 on July 27-
