Across the UK a new Covid strain is causing a spike in cases. The variant, dubbed Stratus, comprises two sub-variants: XFG and XFG. 3. It’s been monitored by health officials but they remain relatively unconcerned about its transmission as mutations are expected.
However, the Stratus strain does trigger a distinctive symptom not seen in earlier variants.
Many people will be familiar with the typical symptoms recorded during Covid-19's initial emergence in the UK in 2020, which included fever or chills, a persistent new cough, and loss or alteration of smell or taste.
However, specialists have suggested that Stratus may cause patients to develop a "hoarse voice", reports Plymouth Live.
