A driver ploughed into a takeaway as they were being chased by police.

Residents woke up to a scene of devastation on Bridge Street in Heywood today, after a car had crashed into the front of a takeaway. Part of the building had crumbled to the ground , following the serious crash in the early hours of this morning.

Greater Manchester Police said that officers had originally been called out to a disturbance at a house in Bury . A man left the scene in a car, and police began to pursue it.

As the vehicle left Bury and drove through Heywood, it crashed into the front of the building. It is believed that the damaged building is the Heywood Star takeaway.
