At their new pizzeria, Benelli's, father-son duo Dennis and Ryan Charnetzky are not cutting corners. But they are serving them.
Benelli's serves both NY and Detroit-style pizza: square pan, sauce on top, tiny concave cup-and-char pepperoni, and sometimes (if the customer wants) with hot honey drizzle.
"We wanted to do something different," Ryan said. "The Detroits are a lot of labor, and we're a small shop, but we are trying to serve a lot of orders. But I love the smell and aroma when we're baking them."
This is a full circle moment for Ryan: his first job was in the same building Benelli's is in now, back when it was Hungry Howie's (Ryan still lives just a few blocks down the road).
