Oakville council will consider passing a new stormwater management fee on Sept. 29, however, the local business community says it’s not the right time.
In a report to council, Catharine Hewitson, the town’s director of corporate asset management, noted that $732 million will be needed over the next 30 years to keep Oakville’s stormwater infrastructure in a state of good repair and complete necessary improvements.
She said the average annual requirement will be $24.4 million and the existing funding is insufficient.
Following three rounds of public and stakeholder engagement throughout 2024 and 2025, the town has settled on a fee that reflects the amount of stormwater runoff a property creates.
