A new 86,000-square-foot ShopRite supermarket is under construction in Atlantic County and expected to replace a nearby smaller store.
The new supermarket is planned for 501 E. Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway Township. An opening date has not been set by Village Super Market Inc.
Tree clearing work at the new site began in the spring. Construction is expected to continue in 2026.
The store is expected to replace the 57,000-square-foot ShopRite at the corner of Pitney and Jimmie Leeds roads in Galloway, according to plans submitted to the Galloway Planning and Zoning Board .
The new store will be built to serve the township’s nearly 40,000 residents and students who live nearby at Stockton University.
ShopRite’s plans also call for two additional 6,000-square-foot retail pad sites.
