KARUR: In a disastrous incident, almost 29 people reportedly died in the rush and stampede at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign rally at Karur on Saturday. As per reports, the death toll may rise, and three children are among the victims. More ministers and government officials are currently heading to Karur in the wake of the disaster.

At one point, the actor turned politician, Vijay, had to temporarily pause his speech as he saw people fainting due to the severe rush. The actor paused his speech midway and ordered ambulances to immediately reach the location. Vijay even threw water bottles from the top of the erected stage to people after a few of them fainted on the ground.
