October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a dedicated time for reviewing trends in breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment. According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 316,950 women in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025, and approximately 42,170 are expected to die from the disease.
Breast cancer is the most common type of non-skin cancer among women in the U.S., accounting for about 30% of all new cancer cases in women. It ranks second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death for American women. In the United States, roughly one in eight women—about 13%—will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
