Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally, with approximately 2.3 million new cases diagnosed every year. The disease accounts for one in eight cancer cases across both sexes and one-quarter of all cancers in women. A striking 70% of mortality from breast cancer occurs in resource-constrained settings.

In these lower-resource areas, health system barriers and patient-level factors, such as low awareness and limited knowledge, contribute to a low uptake of early detection services. This often leads to late-stage diagnoses and poor outcomes. Furthermore, breast cancer in these settings frequently affects a relatively younger population, significantly contributing to premature mortality and increasing the number of maternal orphans.
