Having clinched their postseason berth in heroic walk-off fashion on Friday night, the Red Sox are playing with house money for the remaining two games of the regular season.
Their guests, the Detroit Tigers, are not. Having lost nine of their last 10, including three in which they entered the ninth tied or leading, the Tigers entered Saturday tied with their Cleveland Guardians atop the American League Central.
Detroit owns the tiebreaker over the Houston Astros, who also blew a three-run lead and fell to the Angels 4-3 late Friday night. The Tigers can clinch a postseason berth if they win Saturday. An Astros loss would also give Detroit the third and final AL Wild Card.
However, a Red Sox win on Saturday would cement Boston as the No. 2 AL Wild Card seed and have them meet the No. 1
