Historically, I haven’t been Congressman Chuck Edwards’ biggest fan. That said, it seems he values something Trump Republicans are increasingly looking to squash: Americans’ Constitutional right to free speech.

Edwards held a town hall in Asheville in March, during a time when his party was urging congressional representatives to cancel. There were thousands of people, most of them decidedly unhappy with Edwards. Maybe it’s a low bar, but the fact that Edwards showed up — and scheduled his town hall in an Asheville he knew would be hostile towards him in the first place — to me, shows an understanding of his job as a civil servant and respect for conversation, even conversation he disagrees with.
