When the song Go the Distance was nominated for an Oscar in 1997, the man who sang it - Roger Bart - was denied the honour of performing the song from Disney's Hercules for the awards.

Instead, the microphone was handed to pop-star Michael Bolton, who had released the same song as a commercial single, but Bart admits it was probably a blessing.

"It was a little disappointing, but it was mixed with also really tremendous relief," he told The Senior .

"Michael Bolton's amazing and he sings so ridiculously high ... but we had to compete that year against My Heart Will Go On [Celine Dion's ballad from Titanic ], so we lost to that chess pounder."
