SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. —

Seven people were taken to hospitals, one in critical condition by helicopter, following a Saturday morning car crash in east Sacramento County near the Sloughhouse area, officials said.

Emergency medical services were dispatched around 10:07 a.m. to Claypit and Ione roads.

It was unclear what caused the crash, but two vehicles were involved and both had significant front-end damage, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.

Ione Road remains closed while the California Highway Patrol conducts its investigation into the cause of the crash, the first district said.
