Professional golfer Jake Knapp just spoke for the first time about the death of girlfriend Makena White.

“Makena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate,” said Knapp, 31, in a statement sent to the Associated Press . “We shared so many unforgettable memories together and now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a tough reality to comprehend.”

One of White’s friends posted Friday on her Instagram page that White, 28, died earlier this week. The post did not disclose further details about White’s death.
