AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It has been one year since Hurricane Helene struck the CSRA, leaving 29 people dead.
In Augusta, the city held a commemoration along with a marker dedication, remembering the seven from the area who lost their lives in the storm.
Six of the seven families of the victims attended the event, and while the past year has been a year of mourning and rebuilding, the event marked the names of the victims in the storm’s permanent history, along with highlighting how the community has come together ever since.
Each of the families has a unique story, but they stood together to show what Helene took from each of them, a heartbreak that will never heal.
