A boy eats his bedroom walls.

Leigh Murphy, 29, has to keep an eye on her six-year-old son Steven - who she has with her 28-year-old husband Steven - so that he does not munch on dangerous items around the family's three-bedroom, two-storey private rental house in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, England, because of his rare condition.

The youngster was diagnosed with a severe form of autism and a rare eating disorder called PICA - which causes people to crave inedible objects - in May, and it has made him eat his bedroom walls, mud and sand.

Leigh - who is a full-time carer for Steven - is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “It’s horrendous - there is no safe space to put him.

"He destroys everything.

"He's so strong, he just knocks me over.
