5 Freeway through Grapevine, Tehachapi, Frazier Mountain Communities and Mojave Desert Slopes are the focus of a weather alert for strong thunderstorms issued at 5:49 p.m. on Saturday by the National Weather Service. The alert is in effect until 6:15 p.m.

The storms are packing pea-sized hail (0.25 inches).

“At 5:49 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 16 miles southwest of Stallion Springs, or 34 miles north of Fillmore, moving south at 10 mph,” according to the NWS Hanford CA . “Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”

The alert is for Interstate 5 over the Grapevine and Lebec.
