PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - It’s almost Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one Peoria group is already “Beating the Drum” to spread the word.

Plant Powered Peoria , a local vegetarian and vegan group, invited drumlines from Peoria and Manual high schools to the Riverfront Saturday. They hope the music got people’s attention, inspiring them to learn more about breast cancer.

“We’ve spent about two or three months really gearing up for this event. I hope that the people who attend this event understand that there is a way to reduce your risk of breast cancer,” said Patti Yost, a rally organizer.

The group said there is no magical solution, but they believe avoiding alcohol, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a healthy diet can contribute to lowering breast cance
