PORTLAND, Ore. — A suspect is hospitalized and remains in police custody after attempting to take an officer's gun. A struggle ensued, with the officer eventually putting the suspect in a "neck hold."

At 9:11 a.m., officers responded to a call that said a man was hitting passing cars with a metal pole on Northeast 33rd Avenue over Interstate 84. Police checked the neighborhood but did not find the suspect, and no one made a police report.

However, 20 minutes after officers cleared the scene, they got information that the man was probably in the area of Oregon Park in Portland. Two officers located the man, but the man "almost immediately" began fighting the officers, the Portland Police Bureau said.
