Before Auburn football once again lost in disappointing fashion, there was hope.

Auburn went three-and-out on two straight drives after cutting its deficit against Texas A&M to one possession in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers still had one more chance to win the game.

The defense got a stop, a common occurrence on Saturday, and Auburn’s offense needed to go 79 yards with just under a minute remaining to score the game-winning touchdown. Pass plays of five and four yards gave the Tigers third-and-1, a very manageable distance it wasn’t used to facing on third down in that game.

But a miscommunication between Jackson Arnold and Malcolm Simmons led to an incompletion, forcing a fourth down, as Auburn finished the game 0-for-13 on third down attempts.
