SALT LAKE CITY — Four years after one of Taylorsville’s most disturbing teen murders, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has announced new developments in the case.

Rowdy Lee Aguilar, now 21, has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in the 2021 killing of his 15-year-old friend, Ivan Vetecnik. Prosecutors said Aguilar, who was 17 at the time, lured Vetecnik to a location, stabbed him 26 times, and then dismembered his body.

“This was a tragic and heinous crime,” Gill said during a press conference. “Hopefully, this brings to the family a conclusion.”

Aguilar entered a guilty plea under a mental condition provision, meaning he will face a minimum of 25 years to life in prison when sentenced. The case was moved from juvenile to adult court due to the severity of the crime.
