TRAVERSE CITY — A Thompsonville man is facing charges after state police said a preliminary investigation revealed he drove off in a car that was not his in Blair Township.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post responded to a stolen car complaint on September 18th around 9AM.

A male relative told troopers he initially said the man could use the vehicle but later changed his mind.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly confronted the victim, forced them out of the vehicle, and drove away.

Police said the suspect is 56-year-old Joseph Rider.

He was arrested the following day and taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail.

Rider was arraigned September 25 for one count of motor vehicle unlawful driving away and is due back in court October 7.
