A stampede occurred at a rally of actor-turned-politician Vijay's party TVK in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening due to a massive crowd. People had gathered since noon to see Vijay. The rally started 6 hours later than scheduled, but people remained gathered.

Children and women started fainting due to the heat and humidity. Meanwhile, Vijay appealed to the people to find a missing 9-year-old girl. After this, a stampede broke out, and 39 people died. More than 51 people are admitted to the ICU. Upon receiving information about the stampede, Vijay left his speech unfinished and departed from the venue.
