When the Maple Leafs talk about having better depth this season, they’re talking about three players in particular: centre Nicolas Roy and wingers Dakota Joshua and Matias Maccelli.
They were acquired over the summer to form what coach Craig Berube hopes will be a big, mean, skilled third line.
“Dependables, that’s what I call them,” Berube said about Roy and Joshua in particular. “I love the size of those guys and the directness of the way they play. They’re dependable players that you can put in key situations, and they do the job for you.”
The line made its pre-season debut on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena.
Anthony Stolarz saw his first pre-season action, allowing three goals on 18 shots in a 4-2 loss. Artur Akhtyamov allowed one in th
