NEW MEADOWS, Idaho — The Mehen Memorial Skatepark is officially open, but for this town, the concrete ramps and rails represent more than just a new place to skate. The project is a symbol of healing, resilience and community.

The park honors Rory and Sarah Mehen, a New Meadows couple who were murdered in 2022 at the Hartland Inn. Friends say the idea for a skatepark was originally theirs, and the community carried it forward to completion.

“It’s Rory’s vision. It’s our vision, and it’s just so cool,” said Molly Johnson, a board member of the Mehen Skatepark project.

Johnson added that she believes the couple would be proud to see kids filling the park.
