A Warwickshire mother has revealed her struggle to secure a proper diagnosis for her son after medics repeatedly missed his degenerative muscle condition. Mother-of-two Kasey Mumford said it took 23 medical consultations before doctors finally identified her infant son, Chester, had the uncommon disorder known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA, Type 1).
Chester received his diagnosis at six months old but now depends on breathing apparatus and requires tube feeding as a result of the diagnostic delay, his mum claimed.
