Donations from the Pack a Backpack School Supply Drive are already making a difference for students across the southeast.

Steinbach Family Resource Centre Executive Director Jo-Anne Dalton says the program is on track again this year.

“The approximate number is 179 students that we have filled backpacks for. It seems a little bit low, but that's only because we continue to fill backpacks throughout the rest of the year before we start up again in our fiscal year, which is in March.”

She notes that more students will likely come forward over the next several months.

“[They] will kind of make up the shortfall of another 20 to 30 students over that timeframe that will be supported.”

Dalton says the number of students helped is similar to last year, though the number of families, about 80
