KINGSTON – The Saugerties football team is off to a 4-0 start, and running back Gabriel Valles said that this run brings him back to when the group started playing together.
Valles rushed for three touchdowns in the Sawyers’ latest triumph, a 28-0 Class B win over Red Hook on Saturday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
“That was our Little League,” said Valles. “And we just stuck to it, and now we’re grinding teams out left and right all week. We haven’t won like this since modified.”
Valles scored his first touchdown with 3:38 left in the first quarter as the Sawyers led 7-0. Saugerties’ second touchdown came with a little more than 9 minutes left in the second quarter when Jonathan Hernandez carried the ball into the end zone on a 7-yard carry.
