MIAMI — Tropical Storm Imelda formed Sunday and is expected to become a hurricane off the U.S. East Coast early next week.

The storm caused disruptions in the Bahamas and nearby islands earlier Sunday before being declared a tropical storm by the National Hurricane Center in Miami with winds of 40 mph (65 kph).

It was located about 95 miles (155 kilometers) west-northwest of the central Bahamas or about 370 miles (600 kilometers) southeast of Cape Canaveral, Florida. Imelda was moving north at 7 mph (11 kph) at 2 p.m., the hurricane center said.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto remains a strong Category 4 storm, threatening Bermuda.
